FEATURED FUTURE: ALMA ASINOBI
Having a lifestyle blogger on the blog show is something I’ve always wanted. What’s more exciting? She’s a storyteller too and one of the best in the game. Let’s throw the magic confetti and have us an amazing show with this amazing guest.
WNG: Let's get to know you
ALMA: Hi, my name is Alma Asinobi and I’m a lifestyle blogger and brand storyteller. On most days, I teach creators how to tell better stories, and on other days, I’m the African mother’s voice in your head inspiring you to start where you are and with what you have.
WNG: We all have that voice in our heads. How do you handle school work and content creation?
ALMA: I thought it would be easier because it’s my second degree, but ohh it sucks. It really does. My saving grace is an understanding of priorities and time management. When I need to take breaks from either, I do that. When I have deadlines, I prioritize. Many times I contemplate dropping out, but I’ve come this far, so God dey.
WNG: What's the secret behind your exceptional blogging and storytelling? Not the full secret, a hint maybe?
ALMA: Lol! This is one of those times I wish I had a crazy story, but I don’t. There’s no secret. I still do trial and error numerous times. I still fail at a lot of things - and woefully so. Matter of fact, if there were a secret, that would be it - failure. I fail early and fail forward.
WNG: Failing forward. One time, or about two times I saw on Instagram bants about the story school. What is it about?
ALMA: I created The Story School in pursuit of purpose. Remember when I said I teach creatives and brands how to tell better stories? Yes. TSS is a close-knit group of creatives who are keen on improving their craft. I teach them the art of storytelling and how to infuse it in their content in order to communicate and connect better with their audience. We also learn the technical aspects like photo editing and video editing + you get the gift of community. It’s a whole package.
WNG: All these goodness in one class. Where can we sign up please? How do you come up with the contents you create?
ALMA: I know, right?! The link is on all my social media platforms, and the official @thestoryschool page on Instagram. About how I come up with content, I read a lot, and I pay attention to my environment. That’s basically it. Everything else falls under these two.
WNG: Creative tips?
ALMA: The one thing I think everyone needs to always remember is to never lose their childlike wonder. Try new things, take risks, don’t be too adult-y about life. Stop tighting things to your chest. Creativity is about the fullness of self-expression, and children embody it best. Embrace your inner child.
WNG: How do you overcome creative struggle?
ALMA: I hate stress. So whenever I find myself struggling, I just take a sanity break because I cannot quite kill myself. It can be anything between 30 minutes and 30 days depending on how I feel, but when I’m back, everything flows like it’s meant to.
WNG: You do so much when it comes to creating content for Instagram, how were you able to discover your niche?
ALMA: To be honest, I didn’t start out trying to find my niche. It evolved and took form overtime. I wouldn’t even say I know my niche up till now. I just know my audience, I know the people I’m here for, I know their pain points and I serve them from there. That’s what is most important to me.
WNG: Trick question. What wears a cap but has no head?
ALMA: A pen? Or a bottle?
WNG: It’s a bottle. Thank you for your time Alma.
